Yellowtab

Yellowtab/Zeta info.

Zeta is a questionable continued development of the BeOS by Yellowtab

Bernd Korz (CVO of Yellowab) stated the following in an interview at BeGeistret: Zeta will feature Hardware OpenGL for Ati Radeon, 3dfx Voodooo and Nvidia Geforce 4; Pentium4 and AthlonXP will be supported; It will feature a complete office solution and Beam will be the default e-mail client. (Notice: The interview can be downloaded in BeShare.)

Notice: most of what he said here was a lie, and zeta didn't actually feature any OpenGL nor Radeon/Nvida support. Those technologies developed much later by 3rd parties.

It is also known from various screenshots that Zeta will contain an a new Tracker that supports SVG icons, BeBoch 2.0, FreeCiv, FreeCNC and mplayer. Rumors says that it will also contain BONE, the updated and unreleased BSD-like network stack. It can be confirmed by the release of BeBochs 2.0 (made by yellowtab) It is stated to work under Zeta and Dano. (Dano = BONE) More rumors confirms Personal Java and new window decors.

Notice: The mplayer, FreeCiv and FreeCNC have an doubtful status. Bone is included with zeta. Personal Java will probably not get included in zeta since Java 1.4.2 is development. Zeta will however, come with a dozen of (ugly?) window decors and the default R5 decor seems to be excluded.

About the license of Zeta:

"Zeta is a partially open source version of BeOS with closed source parts licensed from Palm Inc. According to Bernd Korz, Zeta project leader, they will consider replacing the closed source parts of Zeta with open source parts of other OSBOS projects as they become available." taken from beunited.org

Much indicates* thay Yellowtab does not have any source to the BeOS kernel and it's even questionable if they got any source at all, since nothing really proves it.

* Zeta RC1 SP2 comes with an old non-updated kernel from the Be inc era.

Here is an old shot of the Beta1 package of Zeta.

Notice that the driversupport is much only opensource drivers from Bebits. The release date of Zeta is unknown, rumors says that it's not yet mature... Much indicates that it will be released to Developers before a public release. Zeta was stated to be released more than one year ago by Bernd Korz in an interview.

Post any other rumors, screenshots and/or corrections here!

Final Notice: This IS NOT official information.

Rumour has it that the next version of TuneTracker will include voice-synthesizer software and other covert BigBrother™ mechanisms. The voice-synthesizer software will modulate the voice of the broadcaster to sound like he has been taken as a host of a Goa'uld. This gives the broadcaster a new authority over his hapless listeners, striking fear and malice into their hearts. This is part of an overall approach by Dane and co. to take over the world, starting with TuneTracker and it's new BigBrother™ mechanisms. The BigBrother™ mechanisms include the ability to record demonic messages and then encode them into benign jingles, which when played backward, reveal their cruelty and malicious nature, and a module created by HypnosisMusicProductions™ will daze and mystify listeners so that they will stay connected for LONGER!!

In any case, look out for the next version of TuneTracker, it will certainly be something else!

I wish I had the rumors to post but there are some definetly going around. a few nights ago on BeShare chat there was the general gossip about Zeta and something big happening with them. Soon. PalmSource was mentioned too, but that might just be a red herring (I challenge others to continue the colored animal referneces). People know things, they just aren't talking. -Zorak 9/9/02

I hear that OpenBeOS is going to buy the BeOS trademark for $3.50 from an undisclosed source.

I am currently alpha-testing ZetIA, which has been flashed onto the ROM in my IPaq 3850. With Wagner, PersonelJ, Phoenix, & Beam, it's kinda cool!

Here's what's really happening. Jeremy Friesner has had a back door built into BeShare from the beginning. If you examing the source code you'll find it (if you look closely). You see Jeremy is a sly devil bent on world domination (Bill Gates eat your heart out). Now with his cleverly hidden back door he has obtained all the source code ctate was working on while at Be along with all marcone's (BeShare users know who I refer to) secret projects inside and outside Be, Inc. Well Bernd logs into BeShare all the time and Jeremy snagged all his work at yellowTab along with some embarrasing home video (I didn't know you could dance Bernd) with which he will blackmail Bernd for the exclusive rights to all yellowTabs work (you thought Bill Gates was evil....). It gets better yet. Bryan Varner is a pretty sharp programmer but he still based JavaShare on BeShare so the backdoor made its way into JavaShare as well. Well Bill Gates logged into BeShare via Minox's web site to spy on Bernd and now Jeremy has naked pics of Bill with Hillary Clinton (you knew Bill was sick right?). Well Jeremy is just waiting for the perfect moment to use this (there's more, never doubt it) to take over the world. I almost forgot, Saddam logged into BeShare out of curiosity and now Jeremy knows the location of all those hidden weapons of mass destruction. God help us all...

Zaranthos

Oh and Jeremy plans on making stew out of the white rabbit right along with the easter bunny (sorry kids).

Zeta sux...follow the HAIKU PROJECT ! Open Source is FUTURE !
