I think a great idea would be to integrate wiki with BeBits itself, each app would have a correspondent Wiki page where users could write tips etc they found for other users to use. With new versions that info could be updated etc. <font color="red">That is a really good idea
That would be not a good idea because people would be able to modify other people's comments and, even worse, change teh link to the application itself. Wiki also has a poor support for tables and nice layouts, but that is ok, because the idea behind wiki is that it's a very simplified form of creating pages (wiki comes from Hawaii, and means quick). It has also been found out that wiki pages tend to favor the author over the reader. Anyway, back to the original comment, what CAN be done is to embed a wiki section into the actual page, so that most of it is static an only the comments section is wiki. -F|B
I think new pages can be created by following some links and stuff.. Like TuneTrackerSystem.
they can also be created by going to
http://wiki.bebits.com/page/YourPage
where you replace YourPage with whatever you want your page to be. It will tell you that the page does not exist and that you can click the edit button to create it -F|B
You should be able to create pages now. Sorry about that. I changed something I shouldn't have and then forgot to test it. :-)
Hmm, don't we have any concerns about people abusing it?
This is a comment:
People will always be able to walk in and change things. That's why there's a page history, so that a rollback can be done. Also, as I wrote in one of my comments above, wiki is more author-centered than reader-centered. In the end, the wiki community will be taking care of the wiki pages better than a webmaster would -F|B
A Wiki is sort of a leap of faith, really. The hope is that the BeOS/BeBits community can be trusted to not be malicious.
A few other things : you have to be a registered bebits user to use it. also, any person can remove offending material. although hopefully they won't remove opinions that they just dislike. :-)

The idea of a BeOS-centric Wiki is a great one, but perhaps if there were more organization, perhaps most importantly a more accessible browsing interface, it could be a more viable source to those who are entering the BeOS community. As is, I can only see the BeBits Wiki community consisting of those already firmly placed as members of the BeOS community, by a vast majority. - Utako

Modem Test
Instructions for internal jumpered modems.
Before beginning you will need to know a few things.
- What COM or Serial port is my modem currently configured to use?
- What are the IRQ and I/O ranges for the COM port being used.
Here is a list of ports and I/O addresses
COM PORT I/O Address Range IRQ USE
COM1 3F8 - 3FF IRQ4
COM2 2F8 - 2FF IRQ3
COM3 3E8 - 3EF IRQ4
COM4 2E8 - 2EF IRQ3
COM5
(com3 w/ irq2) 3E8 - 3EF IRQ2
COM6
(com4 w/ irq2) 2E8 - 2EF IRQ2
COM7
(com3 w/ irq5) 3E8 - 3EF IRQ5
COM8
(com4 w/ irq5) 2E8 - 2EF IRQ5
- Click the "Be" button
- Click "Preferences"
- Start the "Devices" application
- In the menu, select "Devices"
- Select "New Jumpered Device" submenu
- Select "Modem" If your modem is set to COM3 or COM4
- In the pop up box choose the serial port corresponding to the COM port your modem is set to use
- Click the "Add" button
- If your modem is set to COM1 or COM2 Select "Custom"
- In the "Device Type" drop-down list select "Communication Device" -> "Serial Port"
- In the list of "IRQs" select the IRQ your modem is jumpered to use.
- Verify the I/O port range matches the IRQ (as listed above)
- Now you should see your modem listed in the main "Devices" window
- Close the "Devices" window
- and SAVE your changes.
Note: You will have to restart the system to have the new device recognized.
