Although most people are familiar with high quality streaming audio, bandwidth is available now for high quality streaming video as well. The new OpenBeOS.MediaKit should take advantage of this opportunity to provide seamless network integration.

Efficient Rate-Adaptive Video Streaming puts forth some interesting ideas. When streaming video there are opportunities for handling problems such as limited bandwidth by dropping video frames. B-frames can be dropped straightforwardly, for example. Choosing which frames to drop is an issue when there are multiple B-frames in a row.
