Michael A. Clem, aka macsnafu
I tried out the Personal Edition about two years ago, and then bought the Professional Edition in the spring of 2001. Since then, BeOS has become my main OS on my home computer.
I've tried various operating systems: MS-DOS, DR-DOS, W3.x, Win95, Win98, WinME, OS/2 Warp v. 3, Redhat Linux 5.2, Mandrake Linux 7.1, QNX, FreeBSD 4.2, and more recently Debian Linux and Win2K. In fact, my main computer at home currently has five OS's on it, and a secondary computer that I've recently gotten has three OS's. But BeOS has certainly been the most pleasurable operating system I've ever used.
I guess I've been lucky as far as the hardware-compatibility goes, having very few problems with BeOS and my PC's. Still, like others, I've been somewhat hampered by the limited apps for BeOS.
Programming
My programming ability is still rather limited; I haven't really had the time to work on it. The only major program I've ever written is a 3D maze program in QuickBasic (http://intergate.com/~macsnafu/pcstuff/blindaly.html), and even it's not quite completed.
I do have a BeOS screensaver on BeBits, at http://www.bebits.com/app/2892, but modifying sample code hardly makes me an expert programmer. Still, when I find time, I'll work more on BeOS programming. I would especially like to see a more sophisticated notekeeping program like KeyNotes for Win9.x:http://www.lodz.pdi.net/~eristic/free/index.html.
Et Cetera
More information can be found about me at my personal web page, assuming that I ever get around to updating it:
