BeOS could make use of an extended AlertPanel to address a number of the problems of hearing impairments that could not be easily addressed by increasing general system volume.

Beyond this, some sort of extension to the be sound classes could be made so that discrete sounds could be mapped to dialogs, flashes, or other visual cues.
