Dumb question: does BeOS even 'get' viruses? I was under the impression that BeOS was incompatable with Win32 Programs and such, and thus, 95% of all viruses. Plus, who writes viruses for BeOS anymore? -James
I haven't tried Clam AntiVirus for BeOS yet, but if you still get Windows 9x systems to do AntiVirus work on, get a copy of GeCAD's BeRAV.

It's their RAV CLI for UNIX for the most part, not sure what adjustments they made. The important part is that even though M$ bought them out and stopped sales except to Corps. and ISPs, the updates are still availible on their site. They are still based on the rev 8 AV engine, which is what BeRAV uses, and will work. I will try to find a link to documentation for the UNIX/Linux CLI to add here as use is the same.
Hope to see someone add some info on Clam AV for BeOS here soon
I'm adding this copy of a reply to the BeRAV talkback page http://www.bebits.com/talkback/2449 where someone was asking "How to use" BeRAV. http://www.bebits.com/app/2449
Copy BeRAV to ~/bin. As it's a CL app, you'll need to open a terminal and type "berav -help". Alternately, you can go to the GeCAD site, http://www.ravantivirus.com/ and check out the Knowledge Base, http://www.ravantivirus.com/kb/
browse the Discussion List Archives, http://www.ravantivirus.com/archives/
or DL ProductDocs, http://www.ravantivirus.com/support/documentation.php
Full Engine Updates- http://www.ravantivirus.com/pages/dldupdate.php?type=Engine
Daily Updates- http://www.ravantivirus.com/pages/dldupdate.php?type=Daily
IIRC, what you want is at the back of the Linux Desktop Guide, and it doesn't tell you much more than "-help" on the CL does.
You can use the update files still availible on GeCAD's site. It will only work to 'clean' Win9x, you need read/write access to a filesystem to delete or quarentine files. You can still use it to scan though, at least untill someone ports Captive or similar to BeOS.
With all the heat M$ is taking over virus protection (or lack of ;^p ) and the fact that they alledgedly bought GeCAD so they could "build in" virus protection for Windows and have done nothing with it to date, I expect changes to the engine or updates for the viri defs to cease before long (6-8 mo?). It still smells fishy to me that they bought what was the most effective cross-platform virus solution I'd seen, immediately stopped all individual sales, and now haven't done ANYTHING with it, even in light of the recent virus troubles they've had! I would have thought they'd have made it availible again as a valuable weapon against the flood of nasties on the web if that was their true intent. Why leave everyone at the mercy of viri for 2 or 3 years while they "innovate" it so it's built-in?
